21 Days of Prayer and Fasting (Day 19)

Hi Church,

We are really encouraged with what God is doing in our church! I want to highlight a few things. First, there is an obvious increase in spiritual awareness. This is felt throughout the whole body. One evidence of that is that, is a renewed desire for prayer and worship which has led to to some spontaneous gatherings of members to sing and pray.
In addition, we continue to see our Wednesday evening prayer meeting grow. It obvious. It has more than doubled (perhaps tripled) since the start 3 weeks ago. In short, there is a new hunger and vitality, for which we are exceedingly grateful to God.
Pray that this will be sustained and even increased. If you never come >> Join us and see!
We are aware of several marriages that are experiencing healing and increased intimacy as a result of this prayer and fasting season. A sister stopped me last week to tell me how amazed she is at the spiritual hunger in her husbands heart.
I just left two teenage young men in the church who spent 4 hours today reading the Bible and praying together. Incredible!
Another man, called PT last night and wanted to talk about his conversion and his desire to be baptized.
PT, received encouraging and refreshing news from the Cleveland clinic about his condition. You can read that update here: https://goo.gl/sPSbas
And then I just got word this morning of another set of people in the church that have met to reconcile fractured and strained relationships with others in the body.
Friends, this is not routine. God is at work! There is no doubt this is a direct result of a more focused and intense pursuit of God over the last three weeks. And it just shows the importance of planning seasons of prayer and fasting like this to "reset" and "recalibrate" as a church. So God bless you for throwing yourself into this!
Finally some links and resources. Here are the last 3 prayer meetings online:

With love,

21 Days of Prayer and Fasting (Day 16)

Hi Church,

This week we are thinking about corporate repentance. In our reading today, Ray Ortlund says this, "So why should we return to the Lord our God? Our confidence is his mercy, and our incentive is his relenting. Here is the payoff for repentance: Returning to the Lord, with our hearts rent for sin and from sin, makes a felt difference in real life. Repentance is not easy, but it is worth everything it costs us."

Do you believe that?

21 Days of Prayer and Fasting (Day 15)

Dear ones,

This morning we had prayer together at 6:30 am. If you missed it,  you can access that payer time here: https://goo.gl/NH1Vzo I took a few minutes to talk about what it will take for our church to experience a true renewal/revival. There are some biblical prerequisites for that to take place we need to be conscious of our responsibilities in this matter. I want to encourage you to click on that link and pray with us.
The skies are heavy with blessing! Our responsibility is to lift our eyes and offer our hearts afresh to God. We are asking the Lord to open to heavens and reinvigorate us. Such a blessing will only come as we repent and persist in prayer. For that reason, tonight we are going to have another time of prayer. The purpose will be to work out some of that repentance as we seek to pray over the items on the prayer guide for today. So, if you can join us, please login it at 8:30 pm tonight.
Finally, today's reading is, "When God Comes to Church" pp. 138-146.
Seeking God together with you,

21 Days of Prayer and Fasting (Day 11)

Hi Church,

I want to begin by giving God thanks and praise for what he's doing in our church during this season of prayer and fasting!

- First, so many people are fasting it's unbelievable! It's remarkable that so many are engaged with this. In fact, almost every Church member that I've personally spoken to in the last 11 days has told me something about their participation in this fast and how God is using it. I honestly cannot think of a single example of someone that is not doing it. That's so encouraging to us.

- Second, we are beginning to see and observe signs of a heightened awareness and spiritual hunger. We had more people at our Wednesday prayer meeting the last two weeks than we have seen in a long, long time - years in fact. Numbers aren't everything but this is a good and encouraging evidence nonetheless. Moreover, there was an earnestness and intensity to the prayers last night that was obvious to all. That was beautiful to witness.

- Third, we are seeing a spirit of forgiveness and a tangible pursuit of unity and relational healing take place. I just spoke to a brother who received an email from another brother in the church seeking forgiveness for holding a grudge against him for the last 4 years. They have been estranged for that entire 4 years. One of them repented of his bitterness towards the other and was warmly received. They set up a lunch to begin the process of healing.

- I just spent 2 hrs with a young man who has had a really hard and rebellious heart towards God for years He is now seeking God in a way he has never before. He can't put down his Bible and is reading it every chance he gets.

- We have 5 baptisms (half of them adults) coming and requests from 3 others to talk about the possibility of being baptized. At the very least the other 3 represent young people God is really working in right now.

- Marriages are being healed. I spoke with two couples just this week that have (in the one case) just started praying together for the first time every night since they got married. They have never done that before. The other couple is finding significant help in the Sunday am marriage class.
Gospel Project also has almost every seat filled with active participation.
A third family has been working on the "tongue test" this week and it's brought a marked life and joy to their home this week.

This is just a small sample of some of the things God is beginning to do in our church. I know there is a lot more. Tell your story!

We just crossed the halfway point in this fast. Do not stop now. Let's press in even harder!

Finally, Jim Gauley led us in prayer this morning. It was really edifying. Watch: https://www.facebook.com/hbcowensboro/videos/1323440784379414/

Tonight: evening prayer will be led by Jon and Esther Lynn. Please join us at 8:30pm.

Love you all!
