Lord's Supper Service - Tonight @ 5pm

Hi Church Family,

Please join us this evening for our Lord's Supper gathering at 5pm.

In addition to observing the Lord's Supper, we will sing together and hear a devotional from our brother, John Hoegg. After John preaches, prior to the Lord's Supper, our sister, Julie Hobson, will be sharing a special song for our encouragement.

Additionally, we will be honoring one of our high school graduates, Liam Jones, with an ice cream social after communion. If you would like to give cards, notes or gifts to Liam, a basket will be set-up in the fellowship hall.

Look forward to seeing you tonight!

This Week @ HBC

Hi Church Family,

Just a quick update as to what's ahead for this week.

Prayer Meeting - Tonight!

Pastor Keith will lead our mid-week prayer meeting tonight in the Learning Center from 6:00-7:15. Among other things, we will be praying for the 5th Street VBS and Pastor Jonathan and Tina's transition to Houston. They leave today, along with Pastor Ted and Dianne. We will also remember our sister, Amy Chifici, as she serves alongside the Baldwins in Serbia. We look forward to hearing briefly about her trip on June 11.

5th Street VBS Continues!

Please continue to pray for the 5th Street VBS - for the kids, their families, and the workers. It continues tonight, tomorrow and Friday from 6-8pm each night. We anticipate more reports from Justin and Rebekah and look forward to hearing a brief report about what God did this week when they share during our "God at Work" time this Sunday!

Gospel Project - New Quarter Begins this Sunday!

A new round of the Gospel Project for kids, teens and adults begins this Sunday. For this summer quarter (June-August), we will be studying the "Stories and Signs" of Jesus. We will be looking at the words (stories) and works (signs/miracles) of Jesus. This will no doubt be a rich study. Join us on Sunday mornings from 9:30-10:15.

REACH - "Adorned" Class and "Missional Motherhood" Summer Study

Ladies, REACH continues their "Adorned" study this week in the nursing moms room from 9:30-10:15. Also, the "Missional Motherhood" study begins next Tuesday, June 6. More information to come. Books are available for purchase ($10) in the Book Nook.

New Summer Sermon Series on Daniel 1-6

This Sunday, Pastor Mark will begin a 6-week sermon series (June 6-July 9) on the first half of Daniel. In our current, crazy cultural moment, we need to be reminded of God's sovereignty and be equipped for living faithfully. Pray that this series would be helpful to that end.

Lord's Supper and Ice Cream Social

This Sunday evening, we will gather again for our Lord's Supper service at 5pm. Our brother, John Hoegg, will be give our communion devotional. Additionally, we will sing, take the Lord's Supper together, and celebrate the graduation of Liam Jones with an ice cream social.

FYI: Our brother, Cyril, is also graduating, but will be unable to attend, as he will be on vacation. So, we are planning to also have an ice cream social at our next Lord's Supper service in July to honor Cyril because it's ice cream.

If you would like to contribute cards, note of encouragement, or gift cards to either of our graduates, there will be a basket set-up on Sunday night for Liam and for Cyril next month.

May you press on to know the Lord this week. It is what we need the most. Grace and peace to you!

5th Street VBS

Dear Church Family,

VBS begins next week, Tuesday, May 30th, and runs through Friday, June 2nd, from 6pm- 8pm each evening! We are so excited and are praying for the Lord to bring lots of kids and families to hear the gospel and see God's love in action.

Many people have asked how they could help. Here are a few pressing needs:

1. In the past we have had our snacks supplied by one person, but that resource is not available this year. Therefore, we are in need of snacks for 3 nights (one night has already been taken care of). Snack ideas are bags of chips, packs of cookies, fruit snacks, icee pops, etc. We typically have between 50-80 kids each night. This might be something several families could do together, or even a community group could help with this.

2. Between 6-6:30pm each night we serve dinner. We have Tuesday and Friday covered, but we need food for Wednesday and Thursday. In the past we have had a community group handle each night. THINK SIMPLE. Tuesday the Reach group will be making nachos, and Friday is our cook-out. Other ideas are sandwiches, hot dogs, spaghetti- things easily prepared and easily transported. We usually have between 50-60 people for dinner. VBS takes care of all paper products.

3. THIS SUNDAY, May 28th, we will have a block party to kickoff VBS at Justin and Rebekah's house right after the morning worship service. Lunch will be provided. It's a great way to promote the up-coming week! IF YOU ARE ALREADY PLANNING ON SERVING FOR VBS, PLEASE STOP BY AND PICK UP YOUR T-SHIRT. In addition, there will be a schedule ready to hand out to workers with all pertinent info on it.

4. Lastly, we always welcome monetary donations! It does take money to put something like this together. This year we are planning on a bounce house with a water slide! Although 5th Street has a budget, we hope to continue this ministry for as long as the Lord allows.

Justin, Rebekah and I so appreciate all your prayers and support. Please let me know if you are able to help with any of these needs.

Thank you!

Latest Health Update from Pastor Ted

Just an update for my dear friends and prayer worriers...Two weeks ago today, I finished my radiation therapy (28 treatments) and happily returned from Nashville to our home and loving church family in Owensboro. By the kindness of the Lord, I fell into the minority of patients who undergo radiation without experiencing any side effects (fatigue and nausea being the most common). To the contrary, I actually experienced an increase of energy and stamina. Again, I attribute the ENTIRETY of that to the tender mercies of God. At the same time, I believe, He has blessed the healthy diet my dear wife has researched and perseveringly set before me. She has been AMAZING through this whole trial and I love her immensely!
Now I am in a holding pattern. In about six weeks I return to Vanderbilt for lab work and consultation with my radiologist as well as one of their top medical oncologists. What they hope to see is a ZERO in my PSA count. If you would join me in focusing on that in your prayers, I would be very grateful. A zero does not necessarily mean I have no more cancer. It at least means it is presently subdued and "in check" due to the combination of my radiation and hormonal therapies. I have  learned (soberingly) that cancer cells have a way of "hanging around" until they adequately mutate and overcome the resistance of the therapies.
All of these matters are in the hands of our sovereign, infinitely wise, powerful and gracious God. I trust Him implicitly, not only with my soul, but with my body. I may already be healed, with or without the medical and dietary means. I may also still have cancer, and only X number of years to live. But isn't "X number of years to live" true for all of us?
For those who may not personally and experientially know my Redeemer, the Lord Jesus Christ, I lovingly (not judgmentally) urge you to find Him in the Scriptures, and call upon his name (Rom. 10:13). Here is my ultimate hope. "God (the Father) has made Him who had no sin (God the Son) to be sin for us, so that in Him (Jesus) we might become the righteousness of God (II Cor. 5:21). This was all procured by the life, death and resurrection of Christ. We give Him our sin and He gives us His perfect righteousness. What an exchange! If I could be of spiritual help to you, please contact me.
Thank you EVERYONE for faithfully holding me up in your prayers. I am SO VERY GRATEFUL! I will keep you posted. I thank you also for patiently reading another "Epistle according to Ted."
