HBC This Week (July 17-23)

Hi Church Family,

Here are the events at HBC this week:

Missional Motherhood

The final ladies summer study is tomorrow morning at 10am in the HLC (Heritage Learning Center). Join our REACH ladies for the conclusion of Missional Motherhood.

Mid-Week Prayer

Our mid-week prayer meeting is Wednesday evening from 6-7:15pm in the HLC.

Reception for Michael and Ashley Emadi

We are welcoming home our missionaries to Ireland this Friday evening from 6-8pm in the worship center. After the meal, Michael will give an update on their work. Please RSVP to Elizabeth Byrne (jlbyrne89@yahoo.com) so we can get a headcount for BBQ and bring a side or dessert to share.

Work Days

We have indoor and outdoor work days scheduled as we spruce up the property before the beginning of the 2017/18 year for HCS. We will be working indoors on July 22 and outdoors on July 29. Both of these work days will be from 8am-12pm. Your help is needed, wanted and desired!

Young Adult DR Fundraiser - Car Wash

In addition to the work day this Saturday, our young adults headed to the DR in August with Pastor Keith are hosting a car wash fundraiser on July 22 from 1-5pm.

Lord's Day Worship

This coming Lord's Day, July 23, Michael Emadi will be our guest preacher and we will hear briefly from Pastor Keith about his trip to Cuba during our "God at Work' time. Pastor Keith will share a fuller report at our mid-week prayer meeting on July 26.

July 2017 Update - News and Events

Hi Church Family,

This is our effort to provide you with a semi-regular church update. Below, you have a list of events and happenings at HBC for the month of July.

Lord’s Supper - July 2, 5pm

We will have our monthly Lord’s Supper service tomorrow evening at 5pm. In addition to the Lord’s Supper, we will sing together and have a devotional on “What Christ Does With Our Sin.” Also, as part of the service, we will be receiving new members, taking suggestions for lay elders from the congregation, and conclude by celebrating Cyril’s graduation from high school with an ice cream social. Make plans to join us!

Daniel Sermon Series Conclusion - July 2, 9

Our current Sunday morning sermon series on the first half of the book of Daniel is close to completion! We’ve spent the last month considering the first four chapters and there are only two that remain. Tomorrow morning, July 2, Pastor Mark will preach chapter 5 and he will wrap it up with chapter 6 next Sunday, July 9.

Guest Preachers - July 16, July 23

Following our conclusion of the Daniel series, will have two special guest preachers with us on July 16 and July 23 respectively. On July 16, Matt Troupe, pastor of Free Grace Church in Fresno, CA will be preaching. He and his wife, April, will be in Owensboro the weekend of July 14-16 in route to Nashville for an Acts 29 conference. For those who may remember, Matt co-pastored with Richard Barcellos in Palmdale, CA for a number of years before planting Free Grace Church in Fresno. Pastor Mark and Katie also did a summer internship with Matt at Free Grace Church about 8 years ago.

On July 23, our very-own missionary to Ireland, Michael Emadi, will be preaching for us. Michael will be in town to teach a modular course for Reformed Baptist Seminary the week of July 24-28 in our HBC Learning Center. Also, we plan to host a reception for the Emadi while they are with us so that we can fellowship with them and hear more about their work in Ireland. More details forthcoming!

Pastor Keith to Cuba

Pastor Keith will be traveling for ministry in Cuba with our brother, Tom Cayce, discipleship pastor at Bridgepointe Church. This trip will be from July 6-15. Please keep our pastor (and our brother, Tom) in your prayers as he makes this trip and we will look forward for a spirited report (complete with food pictures) upon his return. ;-)

UpInOut Youth Retreat - July 9-10

We are planning a retreat for the youth group July 9-10 at Rough River Resort (www.fallsofroughresort.com). The plan is to go to Rough River Dam State Park after church for the afternoon of July 9, then spend the evening at the cabins. July 10 will include a visit to Cave Country Canoe near Mammoth Cave for a 3-4 hour canoe trip, eating a picnic lunch and going for a 2-3 hour tour at Mammoth Cave. Dinner will be eaten in Leitchfield on the way back and will return to Heritage by 9pm Monday evening. In addition to the activities, there are 3 bible studies planned over the course of the trip encouraging our youth to live purely in their minds and bodies. Any teen interested in attending is asked to pay $20 to help cover expenses. A sign-up sheet will be available in Sunday School. Please pray and think about your teens joining us and let me know if you have any questions.  Any of the kids going in to the 7th grade this fall are also allowed to attend.

REACH Women’s Summer Study on Missional Motherhood

There are two Tuesday morning Bible studies remaining for the summer. Those will take place on July 11 and July 18 from 10:00-11:30 in the Heritage Learning Center. (NOTE: There will be no study this Tuesday due to the July 4th holiday).

Family Meeting - July 16

We are planning a brief family meeting on July 16. The purpose of this meeting is to vote on a severance for Pastor Jonathan as recommended by our finance team and approved by the elders. Since this marks a significant financial change to our 2017 budget, we need to bring this matter to a congregational vote. In order to accommodate the congregation and not call you out for an additional evening meeting, we are planning to hold this brief family meeting at 9:00 in the gym prior to Sunday School (which begins at 9:30) on July 16. As a member, please make plans to join us for this meeting.

Young Adult Dominican Republic Trip

As you have already heard, a few of our young adults and older youth will be making doing a missions trip to the Dominican Republic with Pastor Keith in early August. To offset costs for their plane tickets, they are doing some fundraisers. The next fundraiser is a car wash on July 22 from 1-5pm. There is 1-100 grid set up in the lobby every Sunday in July to track progress. Please show your support for this trip!

Mid-Week Prayer and Gospel Project Sunday School

Join us each week for our mid-week prayer meeting from 6:00-7:15 in the HBC Learning Center and our Gospel Project Sunday School classes for all ages on Sundays from 9:30-10:15.

We thank God for each of you! May He draw near to us as we draw near to Him and to each other as a family in Christ.

Lord's Supper Service - Tonight @ 5pm

Hi Church Family,

Please join us this evening for our Lord's Supper gathering at 5pm.

In addition to observing the Lord's Supper, we will sing together and hear a devotional from our brother, John Hoegg. After John preaches, prior to the Lord's Supper, our sister, Julie Hobson, will be sharing a special song for our encouragement.

Additionally, we will be honoring one of our high school graduates, Liam Jones, with an ice cream social after communion. If you would like to give cards, notes or gifts to Liam, a basket will be set-up in the fellowship hall.

Look forward to seeing you tonight!

This Week @ HBC

Hi Church Family,

Just a quick update as to what's ahead for this week.

Prayer Meeting - Tonight!

Pastor Keith will lead our mid-week prayer meeting tonight in the Learning Center from 6:00-7:15. Among other things, we will be praying for the 5th Street VBS and Pastor Jonathan and Tina's transition to Houston. They leave today, along with Pastor Ted and Dianne. We will also remember our sister, Amy Chifici, as she serves alongside the Baldwins in Serbia. We look forward to hearing briefly about her trip on June 11.

5th Street VBS Continues!

Please continue to pray for the 5th Street VBS - for the kids, their families, and the workers. It continues tonight, tomorrow and Friday from 6-8pm each night. We anticipate more reports from Justin and Rebekah and look forward to hearing a brief report about what God did this week when they share during our "God at Work" time this Sunday!

Gospel Project - New Quarter Begins this Sunday!

A new round of the Gospel Project for kids, teens and adults begins this Sunday. For this summer quarter (June-August), we will be studying the "Stories and Signs" of Jesus. We will be looking at the words (stories) and works (signs/miracles) of Jesus. This will no doubt be a rich study. Join us on Sunday mornings from 9:30-10:15.

REACH - "Adorned" Class and "Missional Motherhood" Summer Study

Ladies, REACH continues their "Adorned" study this week in the nursing moms room from 9:30-10:15. Also, the "Missional Motherhood" study begins next Tuesday, June 6. More information to come. Books are available for purchase ($10) in the Book Nook.

New Summer Sermon Series on Daniel 1-6

This Sunday, Pastor Mark will begin a 6-week sermon series (June 6-July 9) on the first half of Daniel. In our current, crazy cultural moment, we need to be reminded of God's sovereignty and be equipped for living faithfully. Pray that this series would be helpful to that end.

Lord's Supper and Ice Cream Social

This Sunday evening, we will gather again for our Lord's Supper service at 5pm. Our brother, John Hoegg, will be give our communion devotional. Additionally, we will sing, take the Lord's Supper together, and celebrate the graduation of Liam Jones with an ice cream social.

FYI: Our brother, Cyril, is also graduating, but will be unable to attend, as he will be on vacation. So, we are planning to also have an ice cream social at our next Lord's Supper service in July to honor Cyril because it's ice cream.

If you would like to contribute cards, note of encouragement, or gift cards to either of our graduates, there will be a basket set-up on Sunday night for Liam and for Cyril next month.

May you press on to know the Lord this week. It is what we need the most. Grace and peace to you!
